Animal Farm Allegory

An allegory is defined as a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, normally a moral or political one. Animal Farm allegorizes Joseph Stalin and how he rose to power as a burning commentary of the history and rhetoric of the Russian Revolution. In the story, the animals overthrow Mr. Jones, the human oppressor, by a democratic coalition of animals. The pigs establish themselves as the ruling class in the new society. An example of the parellels between Animal Farm and the Russion Revolution is in chapter V. Napolen’s argument with Snowball lines up with the actual falling out between Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky. Napoleon is obviously losing his favorability of the lower animals to his rival Snowball. Napoleon feels he has no choice but to turn to his police force of dogs in order to keep his power. Just like Stalin, Napoleon works behind the scines and builds his supremacy in private with deception and secrecy.
