Animal Experimentation: Good or Bad?
It has contributed to significant improvement in our lives, but every year, millions of animals are used in experimentation and product testing. Most of which die in the process. There are a number of arguments to be made for the use of animals in experimentation and testing, from animal harm, suffering and abuse to medical advancements saving human lives, but ultimately it s not ethical to use animals in experimentation and product testing, they are not a perfect model for accurate research. While there are some positive effects, there are also negative effects. Roughly around 2900 animals are abused, maimed, tortured and eventually killed every single hour because of product testing ("Animal Experimentation"). Also every year in the US, over 25 million animals are used in biomedical experimentation, and product and cosmetic testing ("Harm and Suffering"). The animals that are used are: monkeys, pigs, hamsters, rabbits, frogs, squirrels, baboons, horses, guinea pigs, knives, sheep, birds, iguanas, rats, chimps, gerbils, woodchucks, ferrets, cows, zebras, fish, cats, dogs. Usually the cheapest class B (random sources) animals are used because they are easier to handle, and are used to humans. These animals come from companies specifically breed animals for research. Most come from random sources like shelters, pounds, or puppy mills. Sometimes access animals from the zoos, or wild animals are used ("Animal Experimentation").…
