The Harmful Effects Of Experimentation On Animals

Improved Essays
Animals have saved many lives throughout history. Why would we want to hurt these innocent creatures that help us everyday and bring joy to our lives. The researchers who subject poor and innocent animals to testing do not give them a choice. The researchers put animals through inhumane ways of product testing, while there are humane ways to put an end to this. Makeup companies keep experimenting on animals because it is a easier; it takes time to switch to more humane methods, plus animal testing is not the best way to find harmful chemicals, even though better ways are available. Makeup companies still use animal experimentation because it is something they have done for years and they feel that switching to more humane ways takes too much time. The makeup companies that still use animal experimentation do so to make more money. The Leaping Bunny Logo is an international symbol. Animals in general are different than humans and both have different physiologies. “Another [reason] might have to do with the fact that whereas human patients are afforded all manner of creature comforts, their animal [subjects] are not” (Be Nice to Mice; Animal Testing). In some labs, rats are kept at a lower temperature to keep them manageable, which in turn makes them eat more, which then changes their physiology and this makes the rats’ bodies react differently to the drug or chemicals. Only 10% of the drugs tested on animals work on humans because of the differences between them. The animals in the labs are not treated with respect and the researchers do not give a care in the world about the animals

The main reason is because animals are biologically different from humans. For example, a mouse can produce Vitamin C on it’s own, they have no gall bladder, and can not throw up, therefore, they should not be one of the most commonly used animals for testing products. There are many cases in which there are various studies showing the effect of a certain cancer but then it does not cause cancer in an animal when tested. This is due to them having a different anatomy and makeup. As everyone learns growing up, everyone reacts differently to various chemicals.…

Also, plenty of these companies that test on animals claim to do it because there are requirement laws for it in other countries that they sell to (“About Cosmetic Testing”); if this is the case then these companies shouldn 't sell to those countries till new laws are passed. So on, there is no necessity to use animals for cosmetics testing, making it unethical and cruel to the animals. There should be more laws on testing on animals in the basis of cosmetics, but separate from…

According to Troy Seidle a pole concluded that, “88 percent of us believe animal testing causes pain and suffering to animals and that such suffering just for cosmetics isn’t worth it, especially when safe ingredients are already available,”(Seidle). Considering that most people don’t feel the need to buy products with newly tested ingredients, why should companies continue to do that it is not an absolutely necessary practice. There are thousands of chemicals out there that have already gone through the process of being tested so it wouldn’t be like companies couldn’t make new products, they could make many. Yes companies want to make money by selling newly improved products but that is not going to make people want to buy products that aren’t apart of their daily use. Gregory Mone states that animal testing is a long and expensive process and can take several years and use up millions of dollars to carry out, (Mone).…

People, especially scientists, are hurting innocent animals that did no harm to anyone. Animal testing shouldn't be allowed to happen because animals are getting hurt, they are not protected, and animals get mistreated. One reason that animal testing shouldn’t be allowed is because animals are getting hurt. For instance, the Draize eye test involves rabbits having their eyelids clipped open for as long as multiple days so that they don’t blink the product being tested away. Popular cosmetic brands like L'oreal, Lancome, Estee Lauder, and S.C. Johnson are used on animals.…

Pros of Testing Cosmetics on Animals Have you worried about going blind from your mascara? Luckily, you don’t have to because of the animal testing that makes sure there is no potentially harmful ingredients in your cosmetics. Although we don’t have to worry about this today, people did before animal testing was so huge. About dozen women really did go “blind in the 1930’s because of a Lash Lure mascara that had chemicals which burned the skin” (Animal Research Cures). This shows how important animal testing is to the safety of humans.…

Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. These animals are subjected to forced feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, infliction of burns and wounds to study the healing process and effects and remedies. Among the cruelest experiments is the Draize eye test which evaluates irritation by shampoos and other products to the eyes. During this experiment rabbits are restrained and their eyelids are held open by clips for multiple days which leads to the death of 50% of rabbits used (Scientific American, "Do Cosmetic Companies Still Test on Live Animals?," scientificamerican.com). We also are very different from animals; having different metabolic, anatomical, and cellular differences.…

People should not be able to test on animals because, more than half the results are not necessarily true, the US does not need another beauty product and most importantly, people are risking animals lives from these tests. Many companies use animals to see how they will react to their product. There are many companies out there that do not use animals for testing their products though and they have great products that people like you and me love and buy everyday. I personally disagree with animal testing just because of the thought that what if it was your pet getting some kind of nasty chemical put in them and it kills them. People say animals are just like us since we are both mammals, if that's true why do we test on them? If they are just like us, they have the same feelings as us, they can feel the pain we feel. Either way, these tests aren't even that accurate because there is a 92% chance of failure when testing on animals.…

The main reason why we animal test is for cosmetic research, not medical research, which is the only type that can be half accepted. Medical research for humans on animals means they still do not get the correct results we need because of the two different reactions of chemicals in two different animals. Popular brands hide the way they animal test because they know that when people find out their product will not sell as well. Global warming is also a huge and rising problem on our earth, and by cutting out cosmetic research on animals, it will mean a few hundred less factories running around the world and releasing fumes into the atmosphere. This will mean a lot of jobs lost, but there are plenty more jobs in the world and it will only benefit our world.…

Animal experimentation for cosmetic products and substances should be prohibited all over the world because the animals go through abusive treatment and when testing is done the animals are left to experience terrible outcomes. The alternatives to cosmetic animal testing are also much more practical and beneficial. Cosmetic animal testing is cruel because animals used for experimentation are kept in horrible living conditions that causes them to go through severe stress. Before test trials are even started, the animals are put through painful protocols that test their ability to function properly.…
