Animal Euthanasia Research Paper

What is the point of animal euthanasia? “Euthanasia literally means “good death” and true euthanasia, delivered by an intravenous injection, is painless, quick, and dignified in some cases. There are two main reasons for the use of euthanasia” (“Euthanasia”). One is due to the high number of unwanted companion animals and the lack of suitable homes. Sometimes the most humane thing that a shelter worker can do is give an animal a peaceful release from the world. The second is for a veterinarian use such as putting an animal down that is sick, injured, or already suffering from a slow and painful death. “Humans in most cases have the right to say whether or not they want to end their life or go through treatment” ("Top"). Weighing the options are the most principle thing to consider when thinking of whether to put an animal down or not. “Some positives that an owner might be thinking of are euthanasia has a moral advantage. By allowing a sufferer to die, the loved ones and even the medical fraternity and society at large is relieving the animal of the pain and suffering. Another positive is that euthanasia has far-reaching financial implications, meaning the owner would save money because they do not have to keep spending money on an incurable disease. Also, euthanasia allows a peaceful death in a medically monitored environment” ("Top"). The consequences of having a pet euthanized may be euthanasia can be misused. “Also, there is always a chance of a medical miracle which is not being accounted for when euthanasia is opted for. An animal may not suffer forever as is expected in certain situations. An animal may get better and that possibility is completely rejected when euthanasia comes into the picture”
