WHAT ARE THE SOURCES OF PERSONAL ETHICS AND ETHICAL BEHAVIOR?
What are ethics? The dictionary defines ethics as “moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity.” Meaning that ethics is treat others as you want to be treated. If you do not enjoy something then do not act it upon another individual because it may come back around. Ethics vary in many forms such as religion, society, government, and individual beliefs. Everyone has the power and knowledge to understand ethics in their own perspective. As well as belief on other ethical arguments that the majority might find pure wrong. As well as many other factors we may have encountered or been educated from. Such as religion, culture, and society itself. Each of these factors are strong factors on defining ethics and defining on why that individual has certain ethics or ethical issues at points. I believe our diversity of ethics for many individuals makes us what we are, and makes our society. As for me when I think of ethics I think of the cliché statement of treat others as you want to be treated. What role does religion play on ethics? Religion offers a form of knowledge for individuals who choose to believe in religion. This goes for all religions in general not any specific religion. The knowledge and the belief we receive from our religion helps shape our vision of ethics. Therefore, our ethics begin to vary from one another. We might not realize it at first but religion is one of the main factors in ethics. Culture is another strong factor for ethics. In ways such as depending on what area we come from as individuals. As well as how the household we grew up in helps develop our ethics as individuals. For example, someone that grew up in Albania has a different view on family then someone that grew up in America. These sort of examples add up and develop into an individual’s personal ethics. So our background and our culture that we have and were brought up by in many ways forms a big part in our personal
