Animal Dissection

Decent Essays
My goal that I’m trying to accomplish is getting the materials that my class need to dissect animals. We are currently learning about the body systems. With the help of dissecting, we will physically learn what each part in the body looks and feel like. Even though it may not be our parts, it will gives us an idea on what everything can be. Also, it will be a fun and new way to learn. I really want everyone to be involved to have a great experience.

I can make this project happen by helping others with the material that we need to learn about. We can all work together to try to understand how everything works. Also, having group projects, which is teamwork, can bring everyone closer together. Group projects always show what people can handle

In Silvercreek’s AP biology class the first big assignment given to you is the cat dissection and with it it an incredibly detailed and challenging writeup. When the teacher first told the class that the assignment would be completed independently within our groups with no class guidance we are all a little surprised since this had rarely ever happened before especially for something so significant and challenging. After the initial shock my group realized we would need to work together not only in the activity but in developing an approach to perform the dissection in a successful manner, we began by delegating tasks based on the talents and elements of our group with those who were more squeamish became note takers and photographers and…

First, what worked well was how our group integrated our individual skills together to complete the project. When we introduced ourselves and what our concentrations were, it was easy to determine what roles and responsibilities we would take on. We worked individually on our tasks before meeting together and integrating everything into the final product. The problems that arose primarily concerned communication and scheduling group meetings.…

“Memento mori” is a Latin expression that roughly translates to “remember that you are mortal,” or “remember that you will die.” We all strive to live our lives as best as we can, but never forget that we are mortal and at some point everything will come to an end for oneself. Everybody has undoubtedly pondered at some point about what lies beyond death. While most people focus on where their soul and consciousness will go beyond the grave, Mary Roach’s “Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers” calls to mind a much less commonly regarded aspect of the topic as it details the various fates that befall our corpses after we die. Roach conveys the often gruesomely detailed information with an unrelenting air of wit, resulting in one of the most…

"Phil Schlecty (1994), says students who are engaged exhibit three characteristics: (1) they are attracted to their work, (2) they persist in their work despite challenges and obstacles, and (3) they take visible delight in accomplishing their work" (Strong, Silver, & Robinson, 1995). As I read Levin & Scrum's (2012) description of New Tech High School, I could see each of these characteristics being exhibited on their campus. Kennedy et al. (2006) (as cited in Papa, 2011) stated that schools are not prepared to educate a new generation of students who are well-versed in emerging technology, and this is incompatible with current teaching practices (p. 131). The New Tech High School in Napa Valley, utilized advanced technological and teaching…

I agree dissection is cruel, unnatural, and unnecessary because they are killing animals that shouldn’t be killed because the animals should just be able to live a long and simple life without being euthanized just to be cut open and see what is inside just to see what's different from us to from what's different from them there is really no point in harming these animals. I disagree dissection is unnatural because who would want to see the insides of a dead animal and see what nasty diseases they have and see if it is contagious. I personally thought this lab was disgusting because we had to rip out the rats guts and intestines which everybody doesn’t want to do but might seem fun to slice something open for science but might not be appealing…

The Evolution of Animal Genitalia; Sex Style Genitals are the fastest evolving organs in the animal kingdom. Rapid and divergent evolution of male genitalia represents one of the most general evolutionary patterns in animals with internal fertilization. In fact, in recent studies, it has been revealed that male genitalia evolve six times faster than limbs or dewlaps, (a fold of loose skin hanging from the neck or throat of an animal, especially that present in many cattle) explaining the large diversity seen in lizards hemipenes. Males using their penises for courtship and females controlling their own sperm body management are two reasons why genitalia evolve into such a complex shape. According to Menno Schilthuizen, a Dutch evolutionary…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…
