Animal Cruelty: The Ethicality Of Animal Testing

Improved Essays
As of this moment, millions of animals are trapped in cages in laboratories all over the U.S. longing to be free. Animal testing is any scientific testing that animals are forced to undergo that causes pain and lasting harm to the animal (What is Animal Testing). Animals used in experiments are killed or kept in captivity: In animal testing, countless animals are experimented on and then killed after their use. Not only does animal testing not benefit the animal, but testing also is extremely expensive for humans to conduct. Furthermore, animals and humans are never exactly the same and they may react differently to different substances. Evidentially, many of the substances are not used for anything useful after the testing on an animal. Animal …show more content…
Overall, testing on animals for human health has many drawbacks and ill-fated wastes. As talked about previously, animal testing is very cruel, causes enormous amounts of pain, and unnecessarily kills many animals. Also, there can be some living alternatives for testing. It is believed that it is acceptable to abuse animals because their pain is not as important as human pain. This statement is very unethical and proves everything wrong in our world. No matter how beneficial testing on animals may be to humans and new medical findings, it is inhumane and wrong. Anyone who can just watch animals suffer and be tortured must not have a caring bone in their body. There are ways and alternatives to stop animal testing; however, people have to start caring. If there is another way to find a cure for illnesses instead of torturing animals, would people not side with that alternative? Alternatives to animal testing are known as vitro methods; such as, human cells and tissues (Collins). If these tests are used to benefit humans than it should be human cells scientists are testing on, not animals. Moreover, animal cruelty can be avoided and eliminated saving millions of suffering

Maybe one day technology will have advanced so far as to render animal testing unnecessary, which would be ideal, but that day is simply not today. However we must not be wanton or ruthless in our testing of animals, just as animal test subjects are necessary so are the ethical and moral policies that regulate animal testing. Scientific advancement should never rely on what is blatantly cruel and scientists should always strive to do as little harm or cause as little distress as possible to their test subjects. Animal testing can lead to great advancements in medical technology and it is our job to make sure that we take the comfort and well being of the animals being tested into account. After all, to anthropomorphize for a moment, isn’t that the least we can do for the beings who are helping us treat all the diseases we are susceptible…

For most people there are two scenarios that come to mind when they hear animal testing. The first scenario is that scientist are torturing, neglecting and abusing the animals that are being tested on. The other scenario is that scientist are being ethical, take care of the animals and are creating life-saving medicines. This makes the use of animals in experiments a controversial topic; a topic that isn’t quite black and white when argued. There are different types of animal testing like, medical testing and cosmetic testing; one is more ethical than the other.…

Oliveira 1 Animals should not be used for scientific or commercial testing because animal testing is cruel and inhumane, alternate testing methods are available, and because humans and animals are every different from each other making animals very poor test subjects. Research on living animals has been practiced since at least 500 BC (Animal Testing Pro & Con). Scientist use animals for many different purposes. Animals are used to test the effectiveness and safety of new drugs before those drugs are given to people to treat illness and disease. Animals can also be used as test subjects for products like lipstick, eyeshadow, contact lens solution, and shampoo (Hayhurst, 26).…

The testing on animals is a very touchy subject. It makes people wonder whether or not its cruel to advance technology by killing innocent animals. Killing animals for testing has its benefits but it's still inhumane to do that to animals. It can destroy populations of animals if tested often and if every lab has its own supply of animals the populations will drop by extreme numbers. The animals that are tested on often get terrible treatment as the people testing on them know they will soon die.…

The cycle never stops. Not everyone is against animal testing. People claim that animal testing is needed in order to find out if a certain medicine will work for curing deadly human diseases.…

Animal testing is “the use of non-human animals in research and development projects, especially for purposes of determining the safety of substances such as foods or drugs.” Since animals are seen as a lesser, animal-testing is deemed necessary by most experts. However, animal testing is torture because we do not allow animals the choice to be tested on or not. Companies like MAC or Mary Kay cosmetics should not test their makeup on animals because animals are not able to voice an opinion. When captured and awaiting for experimentation, we hold the hostages in cages.…

Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. According to the Human Society International or (HSI) ¨Animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation ,food and water deprivation , and much more that the animals are being put through while being tested.¨ This means that the animals are being but through things that they shouldn't be, and that they are also being forced to do stuff. The US department of Agriculture or (USDA) reported in 2016 that ¨71,370 animals suffered from pain experiments while being given no esthesia.¨ This means they were not given the medicine that they needed while being put through the test. To many animals are…

After studying multiple views on animal testing I have come to realize my personal view has now changed since the start of my research. Before undergoing heavy study into animal testing I believed that all types of animal testing should be stopped, but now I believe that the idea is very beneficial and should only be done when the rights of the animal are considered. In the coming years, hopefully, more regulations can be passed to ensure that all animal’s lives are protected during experimentation. Although most animals are treated with care and no pain is dealt to them when undergoing testing, it would be a lie if I stated no animals are harmed during the process. Animal testing is extremely useful in developing life-saving drugs and medicine.…

Though I concede that in some situations, animal testing may be useful, such as in immensely important medical studies, I still maintain that it is unnecessary to make an animal suffer and be discriminated against. Although some people may think that animal testing is healthy and beneficial to humans, I believe that animal testing is unethical and utterly wrong because of the unfair repulsive treatment that animals receive from scientists. This topic is important because the world we live in is as much an animal 's world as it is a human’s world and right now humans are discriminating and enslaving…
