They believe animals do not deserve rights because they don’t complete the duties that an everyday person does. They believe rights only come from the “ability to think” not the “ability to suffer.” In other words, if rights are given from the ability to think than some humans - babies and mentally incapacitated - do not deserve to have rights. The ability to think is seen as an absurd reason to obtain rights. Newborns, the mentally ill and mentally incapacitated also cannot fulfill the task/duties of an average person, therefore do not deserve their rights either. If only those who have the ability to think had rights, then the mentally disabled, babies and the mentally ill would be free to kill and
