Animal Censorship

Owning a pet is seen normal thing. There are more ordinary pets, such as cats and dogs or more uncommon pets like ferrets, birds and snakes. There’s hardly a person who views having a pet as something crazy or immoral. The most common view is of animals just being lesser, sentient but not sapient creatures that are subject to whatever whims human beings choose to impose on them. A slightly less common view is that animals deserve the same rights and protections that human beings do. Within this sphere of thought its often debated how far that goes. Some state that animals simply have the right not to be killed while others are more extreme and are of the mind that animals are worth the same or even more than human beings. If animals are of at least equal worth to human beings, then pet ownership is oppressive slavery. Animals have feelings and awareness just the same as humans. Similarly, the legal system of the United States as well as others classify pets as property in the case of disputes and such, not as citizens like their human counterparts. The pets have no choice as to where they get to go and to whom they now belong. Often pet stores have cramped and below average quarters, reminiscent of how slaves were often cramped tightly into slave ships headed over the Atlantic. More exotic animals don’t even have the luxury of ever leaving the small habitats provided by zoos. Most people view this as normal as if there was nothing more ordinary than a pet in these situations. But if a human was subjected to the same treatment then most would be rightly outraged. It’s completely normal to view humans as citizens and not property, unlike animals.
