monocytogenes was able survive for a duration of time without a host and resist industrial sanitizers. There have been several instances where deadly diseases have appeared in containment food and has been a threat to consumers’ health. Overcrowding in the cages makes it accessible for diseases and other illness to spread onto other neighboring animals. As the diseases spread within the livestock, it could lead to health concerns for consumers. We begin to devalue the lives and importance of animals and begin to view them as ‘machines’ instead with cruel, inhumane treatments.
In this assignment, I discussed various perspective on the topic of animal captivity in factory farms for human consumption with valid evidences to support each claim.

Many of these animals being held in captivity are overly dependent on antibiotics and other drugs which is not an ideal situation (Berry 3). Crops are also dependent on toxic chemicals such as pesticide which many consumers may not be aware of. Berry states the fact that food companies have and are attempting to keep consumers from discovering too much about the issues of the quality and health of their food (3). The only true way to better the treatment of animals to be killed for meat and prevent the spraying of toxic chemicals onto crops is for the public to develop an awareness of what is truly happening in the food…

Currently, the treatment of animals by humans is unjust. As a species, starting long ago, humans have killed animals and have eaten their meat as a means of survival. In recent years, however, the desire for meat has come to the point where animals are being forcefully strangled to death and are being genetically manipulated to quickly grow and die. The people who have killed those animals may have had good intentions––to supply food to consumers––but the food was…

The act of holding wild animals in captivity, specifically for the purpose of entertainment has led many people to associate their abnormal behaviors to psychological suffering. Local zoos and aquariums seem to draw most of the attention from the general public about captive wild animal rights and welfare; however, many forget that traveling circuses are just as much at fault. Coming into one’s hometown once or twice a year, the traditional circus puts on a ‘spectacular show’ using wild animals as part of the main attractions. In essence, they serve as the living props for the actors and actresses that run the show. Among these animals, the most iconic of them all, are the Asian and African elephants.…

Introduction Animal extortion is an ongoing issue in relationship to animal welfare and rights. There seems to be some ethical areas that individuals feel need to be changed on how humans use animals for human personal benefits. The argument supporting animal extortion and maltreatment has been the same for generations, including this view on animals used for experiments, “These benefits to humans far outweigh the costs in suffering that relatively few animals have had to endure. Society has an obligation to maximize the opportunities to produce such beneficial consequences, even at the cost of inflicting some pain on animals” (Andre & Velasquez, 1988). When looking at public policy and a resolution, it becomes a question of overcoming this…

The European Union is more progressive than the U.S. on regulating humane farm practices; however, many U.S. states have taken steps to discontinue some of the most egregious practices, such as gestation crates, veal crates, and battery cages (Puhler 462). While the author examines whether any farming of animals for food can be considered moral or ethical, I don't believe we will become a nation of vegetarians any time soon, so the notion of regulating "humane" treatment of farm animals seems a real possibility. Another related…

These pathogens can also be spread from person to person contact. Before these animals are killed and served they are fed tons of different kinds of antibiotics to fight off these pathogens, but over time these pathogens are evolving and mutating to fight off this antibiotic. Antibiotics are being misused and overused, and people are beginning to be too dependent on these antibiotics. With this happening, it causes potential dangerous pathogen spreads between people and animals. This isn’t fair to the animals because this wasn’t the animal's choice, even though they can’t let someone know what they want and what they don’t want, it still is common sense that no animal would want that done to them.…

If humans killed each other as fast as they kill animals, we’d be extinct in a matter of days. The kill rate for animals is disgraceful. On average, 56 billion farm animals are killed, 3,000 animals die every second in slaughterhouses, and over 115 million animals of all species are killed in laboratory experiments throughout the year.
