Chickens are growing at a much faster rate, and have bigger breasts due to the antibiotics in their feed. Companies have realized that more people like white meat, and have found ways to increase meat size in chickens. Along with the chicken’s antibiotic foods, they’re living conditions are horrid. A Tyson farmer in Food Inc mentioned how the chickens barely even see sunlight. They’re all packed into a little poultry house with minimal light and ventilation. Since it’s dark and the chickens are larger than normal, most of them are immobile since their legs cant hold up the weight (100 days). Chickens can’t even hold their own anymore, nor can they see light. The FDA has gotten “toothless” and has reduced the amount of inspections done. Although hens can live for many years, those that are solely meant for eggs get tired out when they’re about 2 years old (peta). Also their legs/beaks are broken so they stay in one spot and just lay eggs. It seems like chickens are held against their will in poultry houses. The lives of chickens should not be treated with cruelty, nor should they be fed chemicals to be unnaturally larger than usual. Unfortunately, our “advanced” world today lives off of modifications of foods and animals
