1.1 Choice of Task and Topic
We chose Task 1, Influence. This project examines the influence of Animal-Assisted Activity on the elderly.
1.2 Situation
Faced with an ageing population in Singapore with a projected increase in the proportion of elderly from 8.8% to 18.7% for 2009 to 2030 (Ministry of Social and Family Development, 2009), emphasis has been placed on improving aged care. This involves not just responding to health-related issues of the seniors, but to their social and emotional needs as well (Gan, 2012). Hence, our project seeks to find and develop new methods of aged care.
1.3 Reason and Profile of Elderly

For example, an elderly may prefer a pet which is quieter, and thus programs the pet to make less noise. On the next usage, the settings from previous use will be applied. The elderly will interact with a pet that he is most comfortable and familiar with. The tap card can be attached to a lanyard (Figure 5.10) to prevent loss of card and to increase convenience.
