Animal hoarders may seem well on the outside and can have professions such as teaching or nursing. Hoarding is seen as a mental illness linked to obsessive compulsive disorder. Most hoarders are not aware of their problem or choose not to believe it which is why increased awareness is good thing. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) estimates there are between 2,000 and 5,000 new hoarding cases each year with up to 250,000 animals involved with an average of 50 animals per case. Animal hoarding is such a problem because it can lead to neglect and inbreeding. Animal hoarding would be better addressed by enforcing city-level limits on animals. In Arizona, if you have a measuring glass of water in your backyard for your animals, it’s legal. In only Hawaii and Illinois is animal hoarding explicitly prohibited. Prosecutors are hesitant to pursue these cases because they require lots of work such as finding care for the animals. However, it is very important to charge animal hoarders the first time because they are likely to reoffend. Surprisingly, it is said that rather than giving criminal penalties to hoarders and banning them from having pets, it's better to leave a few healthy animals in their care for long periods of probation. Animal hoarding is another form of animal abuse just not as direct yet still leads to more problems and needs to be stopped. (Breitenbach …show more content…

In 2010 the Philadelphia Eagles named Vick starting quarterback paying him $5.25 million. Although very famous, it was found that Vick and his associates operated “Bad Newz Kennels” on Vick’s property. This kennel housed and trained over 50 pit bull dogs, staged fights, killed dogs, and ran a high stakes gambling ring. According to a witness they fought their trained pitbulls with pet dogs and “thought it was funny to watch their dogs injure and kill other dogs.” After further investigation officials found that one dog had no teeth. All of her teeth were pried from her mouth to make sure she wouldn’t harm male dogs during forced breeding. One vet said one tooth takes an hour of excruciating pain and dogs have 42 teeth. The fighting dogs and the kennel were tested and poor perfomers were executed either through hanging, shooting, or electrocution. Police found a “rape stand” which is a device that holds a female dog down during breeding if she is too aggressive to submit to males. This inhuman device straps the female down with her head in a restraint. Along among other things, performance enhancing were found on the property as well. These drugs are commonly used to increase the fighting potential in dogs, as well as keep

Approximately every 10 seconds, an animal is abused in some way, shape, or form in America. In 1966 President Johnson signed the Animal Welfare Act, which is the only federal law that protects and regulates the rights of animals in the United States to date (“Animal Welfare” 2017). All of the states have laws to protect animals, but the consequences and offences outlined in the laws differ in every state. This lack of laws and consequences causes the need for a discussion of the rights of animals in America.…

Indeed, often, it is the mentally unstable that abuse animals, putting those around the abuser at risk for being abused as well. For those who, themselves, are not necessarily invested in the topic of animals rights, an analogy that might spur action would be to think about the potential of their loved one being abused. Animals cruelty manifests itself in other animal/human interactions. It might be instructive to examine the facts about this in the food industry; for example, 90% of the chickens bred specifically for meat production live a short, painful life, unable to walk because of, in many cases, forced genetic mutations. Many animals are as well tortured for scientific experimentation or, even more simply, for “fashion” as is the case of the clothing industry to obtain animal fur and hides for coats and scarfs and leather belts, etc.…

Human activities that we do are illegally killing animals that are going extinct, or pollute their habitats. A human activity such as littering in the ocean could be considered animal abuse if it endangers an animal. For instance, in the movie the dolphin, named Winter, got trapped in the crab trap because the fisherman was careless about where he put it. The idea that Winter was able to live and make the best of what happened is a miracle. Most animals that get trapped in crab traps are unlikely to survive and the fact that she was able to is mindblowing.…
