In the year of 2013, 9.1 billion total animals were slaughtered in US barns (Humane Soc.). Most of these animals have lived in a cage for all of their lives. Most of these animals have been seen as only resources for the consumer. ” People in the United States eat 9 billion chickens and 150 million cattle, pigs and sheep annually” (ProCon). This really makes a dent into how many animals that the US controls, not only that, but the amount killed to keep up with America’s need for meat. If all these animals are kept together in one confined area, there should most likely be a spread of a disease in there. They are spreading their backers by posting more advertisements and have even effected “huge food retailers even McDonalds are listening to its consumers and moving away from the confinement of animals” (Humane Soc.). Huge establishments have been following organizations and most are moving away from getting eggs that are coming from chickens that are locked inside cages. From placing chickens in cage-free environments, it could reduce diseases like salmonella being spread easily, and reduce the amount of chicken deaths per year. The Humane society of America has done several undercover investigations to release videos of how the animals are treated in slaughterhouses (Humane Soc.) “In the past decade, The HSUS and fellow advocates have ushered in historic reforms.
