It does however need a few adjustments. The Animal Welfare Act doesn’t include rats, many animals used for food, and research animals. By increasing the time spent in jail and the fine that has to be paid it will make people think before they act. The present day pit came to existence after crossing two different breeds about 200 years ago in England and Ireland. Farmers bred the large, muscular English bull-baiting dog to bite onto the head and neck of large livestock. Their popularity continued to grow until officials outlawed baiting in 1835, at which point people no longer had interest in the powerful yet sluggish dog. Breeders crossed the English bull-baiting dog with a small terrier in order to make it more quick and agile, which lead to the creation of dog fighting in the late 18th Century. Despite their common participation in the dog fighting ring, pit bulls did not become associated with the gruesome sport until law enforcement began to crack down on animal fighting in 1976.…

A dog owner in many households might spray the dog with water to teach them what they are doing is wrong, just as a child might get a timeout to prove that what they are doing is wrong. Not only that, but the children that grow up around this behavior don't know any different, and when they are older the child will mistreat animals and could even be the cause of some domestic abuse. “The dog runs for up to an hour at a time--sometimes several times a day--on a treadmill.…

You can't punish a animal for killing another animal the way you can punish a human for murder. Humans understand right from wrong. Thousands of cases of animal abuse are filed each year, but less than a quarter of them lead to convictions (Friedman 34). Many of these cases filed are due to the use of animals in entertainment. Today, places like zoos, circuses, bull fights, horse races, and others use animals as amusement.
