It was the summer prior to my 10th year and I had made the stupid decision to stop brushing my hair completely and let it go all Rasta. Shades of OutrageIda B. Wells, a brave journalist in a troubling time, wrote “Southern Horrors: Lynch Lawsin All Its Phases” and “A Red Record” to illustrate the unjust lynching of African Americans in the south. In these pieces, Wells uses an objective tone and indisputable evidence to argue against the unjust and brutal practice of lynching African American men for any crimes, proven or otherwise. Horrifyingly, in several cases, there is no crime involved at all. In her arguments, she uses previous cases of varying natures to prove the lack of equality in the treatment of both victims and the accused due to the color of their skin. In “Southern Horrors1,” Wells talks about the accusations of the rape of white women placed upon black men resulting…

It is within the very nature of humans to be captivated by extreme emotions, yet within his Greek tragedy Medea, Euripides also demonstrates the extent to which we are bound by idyllic values of social order. This disjunction founded upon passion and reason is best contextualised by the gripping antithesis between Medea and Jason respectively. While Medea is the embodiment of barbaric excess, Jason is the unadulterated archetype of Greek culture and its civilised laws.…

For most of time, beating a woman has always been accepted and for a long time nothing was done to change it. Because nothing was done about domestic violence for so long, it is now one of our most serious crimes. Since it has started to become a frequent and heinous crime, state lawmakers started making harsher punishments to try to deter violators. Each state created their own set of laws for this crime based on this growing crime rate in their state. This crime has started to become such an issue we are now seeing it more with iconic figures like Chris Brown, Ray Rice, Chad Ochocinco, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Charlie Sheen, which have all been charged and convicted (except Ray Rice, he never went to trial) in the last five years.…
