In this research paper you will be reading about the history of a few weapons and armour such as axes, swords, spears, shields, maces, and armour. Anglo saxon means the people who lived in the general vicinity of england and some of the germanic areas and Im pretty sure you know what armour and weapons are, so I will just get to it.
The first subject will be swords or “sweord” in old english it originated during the bronze age which is around 1600 B.C., the sword evolved from the dagger later turning into tons of various swords such as the rapier, cutlass, zweihander, sabers and the list can go on forever.
Rapiers are a very long and thin sword that are meant to thrust into the opponent and cause deep stab wounds, although they can be used to slash. This weapon consisted of a 45-50 inch double edged bladed which usually had a highly decorated pommel and a hand guard. The name evolved old Latin then it was mixed with English and French sayings of it, the Latin word was cultellus , the French's was coutelas and the English's being cutler. The cutlass was used by the navy and various pirates, but the cutlass it still given out to lower ranking officers in the Royal Navy to this day.
