A few years later, Francis and a companion
Francis continued to grow spiritually and felt a calling of going out and spreading the word of the Lord to continue his habits of following the lord. If it weren't for Francis’s ability to stand to his virtues, he would not have made such an impact on the world like he has. Now he had a lot of virtues and I can’t even think of a vice that he had in his later days. Some of the good habits that allowed for him to do such good was following one of God’s most important laws; Loving everyone. Francis treated each person and all of creation as if they were all gifts from God above.…

Due to his high skill level on the seas, including navigation, his relatives enlisted him. These relatives, the Hawkins, were privateers that seized merchant ships trading off of the French coast.…
“The Privilege of Poverty” is Joan Mueller’s attempt to reincorporate the women of the Franciscan Order and the role they played during their medieval time back into the early Franciscan history that is often written without any mention of them. Joan Mueller seeks to correct that problematic gap, lacking women’s voices and experiences, in the historiography of the early Franciscan movement. To accomplish this goal, she focuses on the history of the Franciscan Rule of St. Clare which was finally approved in 1253, only two days before she died. The encompassing theme of the book is the insistence on the “Privilege of Poverty” by Clare of Assisi and the women of St. Francis that was finally granted to them one day before with Clare's death…
Furthermore, In the early 16th century, some theologists and scholars began to question the teachings of the Catholic Church. Meanwhile, the Catholic Church's “Sale Of Indulgences” became increasingly corrupt. This practice was banned in Germany but still continued unabated. A corrupt Friar named John Tetzel began to sell indulgences in Luther’s area on behalf of Pope Leo X telling people that if they purchased indulgences, that God would forgive them and let them into heaven. Tetzel began to sell indulgences in order to raise funds to build St Peter’s Basilica.…

Martin Luther decides that his fate is the life of a Monk after surviving a horrible lightning storm. Martin's new teacher, Father Johann von Staupitz, sends Luther to Rome where he is forced to rise against the Church of Rome. Luther is in disbelief by what he sees in there, especially the Catholic Church's practice of selling indulgences in which the common people are told is their gateway to heaven and that their dead relatives can also be risen up to the heaven. Meanwhile in Rome, Pope Leo X needs to raise money to build St. Peter's church. He intends to do this by selling the indulgences that are essentially taking advantage of the common people.…
The Middle Ages were, in a certain way, a time of darkness. Stories and history were primarily passed on through the ages by word of mouth. However, this changed when a man, a monk named Bede, took pieces of history and wrote books describing these historical events. Bede was able to learn through his monastery’s library and became the Middle Ages’ greatest scholar. Without him, our knowledge of this time period might have been limited and historical events lost.…
The Crusades were a religious military conflict between Christian and Islamic forces for control of the holy lands. Though there were multiple crusades, I will be only examining the first crusades which lasted from 1095-1100. I will be observing to see if the crusades, even though very deadly wars, helped the world to develop into the more connected world, that would become after the crusades. The crusades when launched in 1095 by Pope Urban to stop the Muslim expansion into the Byzantine Empire, had many benefits and drawbacks, but overall had large geo-political affects economically and socially. The first crusade also lead to the dispersion of people, disease, and knowledge.…

`Expecto Patronum` Harry incantates and conjures up his Patronus – a silver shining stag that fends off hundreds of Dementors at a time. Harry Potter fans would already be on a trip to Hogwarts in their minds – fighting Lord Voldemort alongside Dumbledore`s Army. For the uninitiated, the ‘Patronus charm’ is the only effective magical spell available to wizards at Hogwarts as defense against the Dementors – vile, villainous, dark creatures who suck up every positive emotion from the human soul.…
Hajj, The Holy Pilgrimage The best way to begin this article is by this beautiful saying of Imam Sadiq (AS) regarding Hajj: “The pilgrims, i.e. performers of Hajj or ‘Umrah’ are the guests of Allah, if they ask for something, He will answer them; if they supplicate to Him, He will answer them; if they intercede, He will accept it; and if they keep quiet, He will be the beginner, and they will be compensated instead of one Dirham, a million Dirhams” [i]. Literally speaking, Hajj means heading to a place for the sake of visiting. In Islamic terminology, Hajj is a pilgrimage made to Kaaba, the ‘House of God’, in the sacred city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.…
