Angels

I’ve never had a personal knowing experience with an angel but, I know they are real. I know they are real because the Bible says they are real. I also know they are real because cultures and people all over the world express accounts of encounters with angelic beings; angels that rescued them from danger, delivered a direct message from God, or gave comfort in a great time of need. In this essay, I will attempt to answer some questions on how, when, and where angels exist/operate. Although the Bible speaks frequently of angels it can also be somewhat vague. While there is a lot we don’t know about angels there is still plenty we do know. With that being said there may be a bit of speculation and a bit of personal opinion mixed in with the facts I will try, however, to keep it to a minimum.
So what are angels? Angels are “created, spiritual beings with moral judgement and high intelligence, but without physical bodies.” Angels were, like us, created directly by God for His own reasons. Unlike the Ghosts, these people are described as much more whole and concrete, and the narrator describes them as Spirits. There is an old saying: “You should never judge a book by its cover.” In “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings: A Tale for Children,” that is precisely what all of the characters do; each character makes their first judgement on the man with enormous wings based on how he appears to them. It is not until the man with wings has lived with Pelayo and his family for some time that they learn more about what exactly he is and what he to them for. It is often easy for someone to make assumptions about someone based on how they look and act.…

To first be able to study and explore what being made in the image of God means, one must first have a concrete understanding that God did in fact create us and that His creation is divine. This is such an important key to understanding being made in God’s image because the Bible itself gives a very thorough explanation of how God created man. There is no such detail on the creation of angels, and just a brief overview on the creation of nature and wild life, but Bible gives a great account on the creation of man. Another philosophical foundation that man must understand, is that being made in the image of God allows him the potential to be holy, according to Edwin Firmage. It is crucial to understand that in Firmage saying this, that is does not mean that man in himself can be holy…
