My middle school only has one lacrosse team mainly made up of 8th graders and some 7th graders. Since 5th grade, when I heard about the middle school lacrosse team, I wanted to be on it. Immediately, after I heard about the middle school team, I begun practiced almost everyday in my backyard and tried my hardest during practices and games. A lot of times it would be frustrating for me when I would practice a certain skill over and over and I would not be able to master it. After a lot of hard work, and from my determination and grittiness, I was able to master a lot of skills and make the middle school team in 7th grade. Grit has played a positive role in my life, and has also played positive roles in others lives as …show more content…

Summary of “The Truth About Grit” In his article “The Truth About Grit”, Jonah Lehrer argues that “grit”, persevering through things and focusing intensely, is needed in equal or larger quantities than intelligence to be successful. He backs up this bold claim with multiple diverse sources. For example, he takes one of the oldest stories, the story of an apple falling on Newton’s head and exposes it stating that it took him multiple years of difficult work and telling of how he filled several notebooks with studies. This shows exactly how grit works, you need to persevere through things and come out victorious.…

The fact that grit is defined as being the strength of our character and that Marcus Crede believes this is neither important nor insightful is inane. Obviously, Crede is confused and must be introduced to the reality of grit. Grit has been proven a countless number of times to be an auspicious trait for succeeding. An example of this can be found on AmericanRadioWorks.org, where Angela Duckworth’s research implies that Community College students with the highest grit continue college, while the students with the least grit drop out. Crede’s argument is that Duckworth’s research is extremely exaggerated.…

It is true that not all humans have the same innate sense of grit like the anadromous salmon do, but that has not stopped some people from trying to integrate grit into the world. To produce better cadets for West Point, schools are starting to teach grit at a young age. An example of this is the marshmallow test done on preschoolers so measure their abilities in self-control. The children are promised two marshmallows if they can resist the temptation of eating one for a short amount of time. Their long-term goal, at least in the eyes of the children, is to get the two marshmallows but they have to refuse the impulse to eat the one right in front of them.…

In sdgva.org’s article “Grit: Perseverance and Passion for Long-Term Goals,” Angela Duckworth explores grit, which is a quality that allows one to achieve their goals through dedication, perseverance, and focus. Although grit is a trait that may take years to perfect, individuals who possess the quality stay true to their goals, despite hardships and failure. Studies have shown that gritty individuals stay focused on one goal at a time, whether it be starting a certain career, or finishing a certain number of years of education. On the other hand, individuals who do not possess the quality change their minds more frequently when it comes to career paths and education. Duckworth argues that grit is equally, if not more important than natural…

The majority of my lacrosse career depended upon my natural talent. With little work, I could coast and still outclass the majority of my teammates. That is, I could until I was pushed onto varsity as a sophomore. Instead of getting the steady playing time I expected, I was only permitted to enter the game when things got out out hand. Frustrated, I asked my father what I could do to earn a reliable spot on the field, and he told me that if I augmented talent with practice and outworked the rest of my teammates, there would be no reason for Coach to keep me off the field.…
