Overall sources B and D support the attitude to women shown in source A, this is clear by the evidence of both writers which agrees that women belong in the home. Also Source D describes the attributes which source A is attempting to highlight. She may “never fall from his side”, and Elgar is clearly showing that the woman is anxious to comfort her husband. Source B is clear in its determined view of the separate roles of woman and men. A woman’s place is at home, focussed on domestic chores and primarily concerned with feelings of “the heart”. This is mirrored in source A where the “separate spheres” theory is portrayed, when Elgar shows that the man is strong and firm whereas the woman is laying on him with all her body weight. She is relying on him just like women in Victorian society; they rely on their husband to provide for them and to bring the money
