Imagine risking your own life to bring in the life of another. Imagine going to the dentist not knowing if you would come out dead or alive. Can you picture the anxiety and pain they must have felt. I'm going to introduce a topic on anesthetics. For those of you who don't know what an anesthetic is, it is a substance given to a patient to numb or reduce the sensitivity to pain. On the 16th of October in 1846 a dentist that goes by the name of William Thomas Green Morton who performed the first public demonstration using inhalational anesthetic.
