Anesthesiologists assess on a daily basis the risk of adverse events for each sedated or anesthetized patient and are expected to communicate this risk to patients, healthcare providers and families of children presenting for surgery. An estimation of the patient’s condition is rated by the ASA score. However, the American Society of Anesthesiologist’s Physical Status (ASA-PS) scale does not take into account the surgical procedure, the skill of the surgeon, and the experience of the anesthesiologist.
