Anesthesiologist Goals

Living in the Scranton area my whole life then choosing to go to college at Marywood, I have seen the ups and downs of the city. My goals for the future are to become a leader in our community and to finish my doctorate as an anesthesiologist. There are many aspects of Marywood’s Core Values that peaked my interest in this school. In particular, service, empowerment, and respect are the values I put behind my own aspirations. To be a leader service is the starting foundation. There has never been a leader who has not been at the bottom first. Helping others, whether they ask or not, is how people learn to be kind to one another. I want others to look up to me while I remain calm and collected during a stressful moment. But first I want others …show more content…
I love working with children and watching them accomplish a new skill. I teach swim lessons and work as a camp counselor in the summer as well in the off seasons. Serving the community by developing skills with tomorrows’ leaders is a huge part of why I want to do what I want to do. Being an anesthesiologist is more than putting people to sleep. I will talk to patients before they have their procedure and because of the service I do now, I will have the appropriate people skills to communicate all risks while ensuring a patient that what I am doing will ultimately result in greater benefits to …show more content…
I chose Marywood to further my education because I believe in the core values and mission statement. I believe we all have the power to decide what we want to do and where we want to go and how to present ourselves. We can make the choice to improve our goals and not only achieve them, but be the perfect example of what we want to reach. As a leader, not only do I have to show respect toward peers, but also toward those who may oppose me. Respect is earned, but not to respect someone because they did not earn it is ludacris. Not everyone deserves the same amount of respect but not a single person deserves no respect. As a leader I will show off my skills of accepting everybody and treating everyone as if they are the most important person in the world. I will use Marywood as a resource while I spend my 4 years here and expand my horizon on the different ways people should be

Since my second semester at UT, I have devoted 15 hours a week to volunteering as a Young Life leader. Every week I help run a club meeting for dozens of high school kids, manage a planning meeting with my teammates, and lead a small group for sophomore girls. I spend hours at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School watching games and performances, and simply getting to know these young adults. Through investing this time to build relationships as a mentor and role model, I strove to show these girls that they are significant, noticed and valued. Volunteering as a Young Life leader has taught me invaluable lessons in building relationships, caring for others, and working with a team that will help me to be a more supportive and productive physician…

The reason that I chose to attend Marywood had more to do with simple education. There were many things about the school that I found attractive, not least of which was its strong adherence to a set of values. I have always been a very driven person, especially when it comes to my goals and interests. While not every one of the core values applies to me and my goals, the ones that do align strongly with both the interests that I have, and the places that I see myself going later in life. The most important goal to me is excellence.…

When we were kids, we were in awe of adulthood and how we could do any job that we wanted to do. Now that is becoming more of a reality for older students. As school nears its final years for those students, they have to decide what path fits them the best. As Marian Wright Edelman once said, “Never work just for money or for power. They won’t save your soul or help you sleep at night.”…

Working with children is one of my strong suits and I really enjoy it. Having the ability to cure children with diseases that are clearly harmful and unwanted would be truly amazing. The toughest and most unbearable part about this job would be watching the kids, that you couldn’t save, having their life end such a young age. Being able to come home from my job and say “I saved a life today.” would be the greatest feeling, knowing you just made someone’s life better. Learning more about the career has made me more interested in pursuing it, and being able to save lives would be the most rewarding thing about this career…

I can still remember the day when my parents told me the phrase, “You are a leader, not a follower.” It was in kindergarden right after I told them about a few girls who were making fun of a friend of fine, and I decided to stop them and defend her. I feel that I can make a difference in each patient’s life that I encounter, it might be as small as getting a wheelchair if they seem flaccid or weak, a blanket if they are cold, something to drink or just talking to a patient to get their mind off pre-surgery. I look forward to volunteering each week. The most rewarding day by far was being able to witness a nurse giving CPR to a child choking. She saved his life. I would want to someday be able to be able to save a life, not for the recognition but because I want to make a difference.…
