I have never been a fan of anything he’s done (print or film), and I can’t stand what he did to Marilyn Monroe. It looks like he colored her face with highlighters. I find no talent or passion in that piece. My five year old twins do that in their coloring books daily. Of all the styles of art, Post-Modern is my least favorite. My impression is that Post-Modernism is far too liberal with what can be considered art. “During the 1970s, the art of painting (and to a lesser extent sculpture), was seen as worn out. Besides, the idea of working for four years to master the necessary skills of these traditional fine arts, was considered retrogressive. I’m completely fine with revolution, I think it’s necessary. Yet where art is concerned, it seems that there was significant brain washing going on. A urinal is art because an ‘artist’ said so? The odd, grotesque, erotic works of art I see from this period seem more like children seeing what they can get away with rather than anything that was inspired or created from passion or purpose.
Like I said before, Art is truly experienced in the senses of the beholder. My best friend hates Impressionism. She prefers Post Modern, she embraces weird. My husband thinks classic muscle cars with bikini girls on them is art. My little brother has tattoo sleeves, and he calls that his art. Whether or not I agree really doesn’t matter, that’s the beauty of it. Art appreciation such a personal thing for every individual, I’m glad there’s a medium for everyone to enjoy. And if there is someone who isn’t content with the styles we’ve seen, maybe they’ll pioneer the next big
