Melinda is doing great in school, has many friends and she is happily content with her life, but why did this change over the course of summer vacation. Here’s how it all goes down, nobody wants to talk to her and no one wants to be her friend because she simply called the police at a summer party. At Merryweather High School, Melinda Sordino starts her freshman year with a bad start. She does anything she can to avoid and get away from here teachers. The one and only teacher that she doesn’t hate is her art teacher, Mr. Freeman. “IT”, Andy Evans is one of the many people that brings back bad memories. As she starts to see “IT” more and more often she begins to feel depressed an injured from her mind. After many months of holding in her secrets she finally decides to tell Mr. Freeman what happened at the summer party, she explains to him that she was raped by Andy Evans at the party, which is why she called the police. I use the frog to symbolize her struggles throughout high school. An example of this is, “David pins her froggy hands down to the dissection tray. He spreads her froggy legs and pins her froggy feet. I have to slice open her belly. She doesn’t say a word, she is already dead. A scream starts in my gut, I can feel the cut, smell the dirt it leaves in my hair (Anderson 81). The frog represents how Melinda feels mentally and physically. She feels pinned downed and forced to do the things she doesn’t want to do, which makes her feel the sick feeling she does when she dissects the frog. Another example of this, “I don’t remember passing out, David says. I hit my head on the way down. (Anderson 81). The reason why Melinda passed out was because she could relate to the frogs in many different ways, such as being pinned down and forced to do things that don’t suit her
