The universe is very big. It could be infinite, we aren't sure exactly how big it is because it is still growing. It is home to countless stars, planets, galaxies, and nebulae. Everything is so far apart. For instance, our moon is 238,900 miles away from the Earth. It is about twice as many miles that someone might walk in eighty years, assuming they walk about 7,500 steps every day. The closest galaxy to us is the Andromeda Galaxy, it is approximately 2.9 million light years away.
As long as humans have been alive they have questioned and tried to explain the purpose of the visible pieces of the universe. Egyptians thought that the sun god, Ra, had to deal with the universe and how it “reincarnates”. The Chinese made pictures of the stars

We can only see 13.8 billion light years in one direction. This happens because the light from beyond that point hasn’t reached us yet. It keeps growing at the speed of light. The speed of light is approximately 186,282 miles per second. An important part of our visible universe are stars. A star is born when atoms of light elements are squeezed under enough pressure for their nuclei to undergo fusion. All stars are a result of force: the force of gravity compresses atoms in interstellar gas until the fusion reaction begins. Stars come in different sizes. The smallest star is called the M- type or the M star. They are just big enough to initiate nuclear fusion at its core. If they were smaller, they would be brown dwarfs, substellar objects but still many times bigger than the biggest planet in our Solar System, Jupiter. They can live for around one hundred billion years With increasing mass stars start to change in size, luminosity, and color. Our sun is considered a G star. It is a small medium size. It is bigger than M-stars and K-stars, but smaller than F, A, B, and O stars. Its color is yellow and is expected to live around ten billion years. The O- type star is the biggest of all of the stars. It won’t live very long like the M stars because it uses a lot of “fuel”. They will only live around one billion years. That is a blink of an eye compared to how long …show more content…
Scientists don’t know exactly what it is because we can’t taste, feel, see, or hear it. Although there are not many signs that tell us there is dark matter, we know something is out there. We can see its effects on planets, galaxies, and stars. Dark matter does not interact with electromagnetic forces. That means it can’t absorb, emit, or reflect light. That makes it extremely hard to find. In fact it is so hard to find that researchers can only infer the existence of dark matter. It was discovered by Fritz Zwicky at Caltech in 1933. It is very important how dark matter helps move planets, black holes, stars, nebulae, and galaxies. Dark matter takes up approximately twenty-seven percent of the

A spiral galaxy is a certain kind of galaxy originally described by Edwin Hubble in his 1936 work The Realm of the Nebulae and, as such, forms part of the Hubble sequence. Spiral galaxies consist of a flat, rotating disc containing stars, gas and dust, and a central concentration of stars known as the bulge.(Sloan) Spiral galaxies resemble spiraling pinwheels, nearly 77% of space consists of spiral galaxies. Though the stars and other visible material contained in such a galaxy lie mostly on a plane, the majority of mass in spiral galaxies exists in a roughly spherical halo of dark matter that extends beyond the visible component, as demonstrated by the universal rotation curve concept. In the Hubble classification scheme: Spiral galaxies…

Each of those galaxies contains billions of suns and countless worlds. But the whole part of the Virgo supercluster forms a small part of our universe. Copernicus had a proposal that the Earth was not in the center it was just one of the planets that revolve around the sun. The universe is unbounded and the cosmos must be infinite. Ten years after Bruno was killed Galileo looked in the telescope and realized that he was right the Milky Way was made of countless stars and worlds invisible to the naked eye.…

Basically Andromeda was named the chained woman because she was chained to the rock because her mother said she was more beautiful than the Nereids. I have chosen the Andromeda constellation as my favorite because I have always loved the story of Andromeda. The constellation is named after Princess Andromeda, bride of Perseus from Greek mythology. She was used as a sacrifice to save her kingdom from a dreaded sea monster sent by Poseidon. She was rescued by Perseus who slew the beast. In mythology, Andromeda was the daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia, king and queen of the North African kingdom of Aethiopia.…

Have you ever looked into the night sky and wondered, what beauty lies just beyond the reach of the naked eye? There is so much beauty out there to be seen, not with the naked eye but, rather with the use of a powerful telescope. Most people do not have the chance or opportunity to experience and view the stars and planets that surround us. The universe that surrounds us is one of God’s most brilliant and beautiful creations, and the history and science that is out there is just waiting to be studied. The Stars have been an important aspect to humans since before writing.…

The universe is so big and mysterious that you never know what it’s going to throw at you. When you think you got everything figured out, you encounter a bump on the road. This happens because the universe is so complex and infinite, that we are barely begging to understand it. We are still a very long way into fully understand the universe. Pluto originally discovered in 1930, and later given official planet status by the IAU has been an ongoing debate for decades (Freedman).…

On a clear and dark night from a position with low levels of pollution, the Andromeda Galaxy can be easily observed in the sky by the unaided eye, even though it is about 2.5 million light-years away from Earth. The unaided eye, however, can only perceive the galaxy as a whole and is unable to distinguish features within the galaxy. Luckily, microscopes combined with the intellect of many bright astronomers over the years have allowed us to better understand what the human eye cannot see, in particular what lies beyond the Milky Way Galaxy in our neighboring galaxy. This paper will focus on some of the recent discoveries and observations on the Andromeda Galaxy that have been key in helping our planet comprehend what lies beyond us.…

When we look up into the sky we think that we are living the present, but in all reality we living and looking at the past. The light that we see from stars takes time to reach earth, this means that we can be looking at the light of a star that was produced four years ago; this is a result of the distance between earth and the star. The life and death span of a star depends on the mass of the star. Based on the distance of the sun from the earth and the amount of energy that the sun produces, the living things on earth have approximately 10 billion years of life left ( name of author). Mostly all stars have the same life cycle, the only thing that distinguishes the end result of the stars is the amount of mass that each star contains.…

Red giant stars reach sizes of 62 million to 621 million miles in diameter (100 million to 1 billion kilometres), 100 to 1,000 times the size of the sun today. The energy of the star is spread out across a larger area, like the pixels when one expands a raster graphic. Because of this, the star actually becomes cooler reaching only a little more than half the heat of the Sun. The temperature change causes stars to shine more towards the red part of the spectrum; it is this that gives a red giant its name. Where a star goes from this point depends on its size.…
