Through his involvement in Boy Scouts he consistently volunteers his time and energy. The perseverance that Andrew shows in all areas of his life is clearly seen in his pursuit of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Andrew's Eagle Scout project required a significant time commitment. In a program that many young children in town join in elementary school, perhaps less than half a dozen of those in Andrew’s class continue with the program through its entirety. Andrew has stayed with scouting and mastered requirements over the past ten years. Andrew sees his time with scouting as very important in his life. The number of milestones he achieved in the mastering of skills, he finds applicable in life, not only now, but realizes they will continue to be useful throughout his adult life. Andrew’s leadership skills were highlighted during his time in Scouting. As a Troop Guide he mentored younger scouts in Troop activities, and provided encouragement and motivation to remain in scouting. At age 15 lead the troop as Senior Patrol Leader. Andrew recognizes that citizenship and leadership skills are of particular importance, and two that he will continue to use and build on throughout

Wes Moore’s leadership attributes are not specific to him. Instead, such attributes as courage, reverence, and loyalty are prevalent in all leaders in society. These characteristics, and more, are all included in the Boy Scouts of America Scout Law: trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent (BSA 2016). John consistently challenges himself through honors and AP studies. He started taking AP classes as a sophomore and continued on this accelerated path in subsequent years opting for three AP level courses in his senior year. I asked John why he was putting so much pressure on himself in his senior year and he responded “Life is full of easy sometimes you need to challenge yourself and take some risks, that’s what I’m doing.” We have witnessed John develop and grow not solely in academics at Providence but in character, intellectual integrity, and spirituality.…
