The first decades of our nation had brought us various leaders, all claiming for the best of our nation whilst implementing their beliefs. Most of our first presidents came from a bloodline of wealthy, well-educated people. Andrew Jackson's presidential campaign was significant as he was the first president representing the common man. Andrew Jackson grew up poor and had no formal education except for his self-education. This being said, many people believed he was the perfect democratic candidate and would elect him as the 7th president. Once elected, it would be soon to realize that many of his decisions were not all for the benefit of the people but for the benefit of his beliefs. Having a more monarch interpretation it would be realized he was not a good democratic.

One major reason why Andrew Jackson wasn't a democratic president was his different interpretation of the U.S. Constitution. Andrew Jackson was a huge advocate for the poor. The spoils system states it can give government jobs to the common man as this nation is built for the common man. But Andrew Jackson uses this system as a way to give government jobs to close acquaintances and supporters. He liked Swartwout because he had been an early supporter”(Doc7). Despite various warnings of the potential danger that Swartwout can bring, Jackson is still being appointed as a repayment of his loyalty. This is very similar to how a King would appoint noblemen and people of higher status due to how close the king is to these people. This goes against all that Jackson had advocated as he gave a government job to a criminal who would soon steal from the government, ignoring congress advice and going with his will is something only a monarch would
