The westward movement of great population of America occurred in the beginning of the nineteenth century and as a result of it the statehood of Tennessee, Vermont, Ohio and Kentucky were made part of the huge American territory. Moreover, the Louisiana Purchase which took place in the history of America doubled the size of the American territory by expansions and explorations to new regions. As soon as the 1812 War ended, the expansion began at its peak.
The U.S. federal government want to enlarge the territory of the America, therefore, between the years of 1816 to 1821 there were many new states added to the Union. Ogden was an important case which was brought to U.S. Supreme Court in 1820’s. The Congress was given the power to regulate the interstate commerce by the U.S. Constitution’s Commerce Clause in the decision of this case. As a result of this case, more powers were granted to the Federal Government of United States to conduct the trade and commerce throughout the states of America. Although it was also held in the decision that the powers granted to the federal government will be limited however the limits were not defined in the decision.
d. The Five Civilized Tribes
The Five Native American Nations were known as Five Civilized Tribes. These tribes include Creek, Cherokee, Choctaw, Seminole and Chickasaw. The Anglo-European settlers during the early federal and colonial period considered these Native American nations civilized because many of the customs of the colonists were adopted by them. Most of the Native Americans of these tribes were descendants of Mississippian culture. All these tribes were compelled to move to the Indian Territory by the Federal government of U.S. Thus from the southeastern territory these tribes moved to the western part of the America.
