December 17, 1949 in Monticello, Arkansas my grandpa Darrell Andrew Donaldson was born to Oren and Lucille Donaldson. He was the middle child of three children. He, his parents, and his grandparents all lived under the same roof. This continued until his grandmother’s death in 1955. After his grandmother’s death his father Oren inherited on hundred and sixty acres of farmland. The date of the original purchase of the farm is unknown. Oren farmed cotton and raised cattle on the side. In 1954 Darrell started first grade at the age of five. There was no kindergarten or age cutoff rules to start school at the time In 1960 his father purchased another 160 acres of land most of it was timber. From then on out smarter practices were put in place to keep from going back into debt in the future. He immediately went to college at A&M in Monticello, which is now UAM. He got married to my grandma, Adelia Mae Jones in November of 1969. On June 18 1970 my mom Tracy Lyn Donaldson was born. He graduated college in 1971 with an agriculture degree and a business minor. His first son John Richard Donaldson was born August 27, 1974. His second son was born August 30, 1978. Shortly after he was born small farms began fading away. As this was in favor for large farms as the machinery improved. As the profits in cotton and soybeans dropped he switched to full time cattle farmer and hay. During his life he has had many jobs. During his summers off from college he scouted cotton. Which is looking for boll weevils and boll worms. One summer he worked on the production line at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. After he graduated he worked at Levi Straus in Star City for two years in the cutting department. Some of the people he trained are still working there to this day. Then for eight months he worked at National Wire Co. After that he then moved on to International Paper co for two and a half years, he left because he was overlooked for promotion 4 times.
