Sure, the walk home was long, but lying on his own bed was so much better than waiting forever in the library. He walked out of the gym and the afternoon sun’s rays glared painfully bright, blinding him for a second. In the distance, a group of older boys was playing basketball, their voices raised in unison as one player made a quarter throw shot. Simon stopped, raising an arm to shield his eyes from the sun.…

Canterbury Tales Satire Essay THE PROLOGUE: “ Will you two be quiet and stop mumbling about how popular you are I have a real story about brains and brawn that will surely top any of the nonsense you're talking about. No one will care about how many tackles you got in about 10 minuets and no one cares about how your dad shut down your credit card this month! I appreciate this fascinating poem because Edward Hirsch describes a simple fast break in basketball as a slow, yet complex action performed by players. He writes as if everything is occurring in slow motion due to the the use of descriptive words evoking the five senses. Using imagery through his work, I get the feeling of tension and accomplishment through these stanzas. Playing basketball before, I have definitely experienced what he described in real life. There are many aspects to this poems that assists to make the poem more lively and relatable.…

Jeannette became the woman she is today in spite of her childhood because of the poverty she faced, the lack of a consistent and reliable home, and the two, polar opposite sides of her father. For the first seventeen years of her life, Jeannette lived in a kind of poverty that most people could hardly imagine: no plumbing, dangerous infrastructure in her houses, and rarely any food. Her family was so poor that “[the] kids slept in big cardboard boxes” (52), says Jeannette.. This largely contrasts to the life she lived even when she first arrived in New York. In New York, Jeannette worked…

The most fundamental element of Christianity is the direct faith-based relationship between God and man. Stringent and tightly conservative Christian ethics derived from man-made rules, traditions, and rituals infused into biblical doctrine often obscure that relationship as well as the meaning of God’s grace. Ethics, defined in standalone terms, are a set of values or theoretical ideas that make the acts of religious rules, traditions, and rituals compulsory to receive God’s grace (Webb, 2001). Christian ethics, while not being a completely bad idea, become dangerous when they strip morality away from their biblical foundations (Webb, 2001). Christian ethics often complicate being a good Christian and the morality of leading a Christian…

Neither boy would “rat” out their friends, instead they kept quiet and attempted to protect each other as long as possible. The characters I liked the least were Eddies and Marcus’ mothers.…
