Andrea Yates Psychological Analysis

Considering Andrea Yates' psychological condition of having postpartum psychosis along with another mental disorder, I consider the mother of five children in the state of Texas not guilty, therefore it would be unreasonable for her to be sentenced to death. Seeing as she belonged to a branch of Christianity which accepts all the children God concedes them, she had a great deal of responsibility regarding her role as both a mother and a housewife. Her husband, Rusty who worked with NASA, did not spend time in the house helping his wife with his infants whatsoever. As a result of all the work she had thrust upon her, Andrea submerged into a state of insanity.

One the main reasons, aside from her disorder, for her to commit this crime, was to get back at her husband for the many things that he had done to his family, such as causing them to live in a bus, and forcing her to homeschool the children.
What turned out be rather a disappointing and shocking act was the father's reaction to this tragedy. Instead of grieving the horrendous death of his children, he smiled at the cameras, with an attitude that portrayed as if the murder of his five infants was the best thing that had happened to him because it brought him fame. The mother did have part of the blame in the horrific crime she committed, however it can be understood as Andrea's mental condition gradually, with each baby she delivered, worsened until she reached the state of insanity.
Thankfully, after several years and after the second trial, in 2006 the state of Texas has changed their classification of Andrea Yates from a criminal to a patient. At the moment, she resides in a medical facility in Texas. It is believed that she will never be allowed out to live a normal life because no judge will ever decree that the community would be safe with Andrea living her life with no adult

Upon celebrating the 20 anniversary of being released, today, Sabrina Butler works as the assistant director of membership and training at the Witness to Innocence program. Together with her husband and three children, Sabrina now lives a normal life back in Columbus, Mississippi. When she reflects on the hardship that she has experienced, Sabrina stands firmly behind the idea that death penalty should be abolished entirely: “even if every reform was adopted, innocent people would still get convicted and sent to death row,” she said. She believes that “as long as human beings are in charge, they will make mistakes.” Butler contends that if death penalty cannot assure that all inmates on death row are utterly guilty, the criminal justice system should not risk the chance to execute innocent people.…

“The Blind Side” is a film depiction of the life of NFL left tackle, Michael Oher and his miraculous transition from being a homeless teen to becoming an NFL first round draft. The film follows the development of Michael as he is taken off the street by the Tuohy’s and with their support became involved with football. I chose this film because it portrays the social and behavioural development of a teen without a stable upbringing and how it affects his relationship and encounters with others. The movie does not only show the development aspect of one stage of adolescence but follows Michael’s character from childhood to his adult years. As well, the movie forms basis of comparison between Michael and the Tuohy children.…
