Consequences Of Lowering The Drinking Age

Putting thought into raising or lowering the drinking age can sometimes be tricky. There are a few reasons why I could see people wanting to lower it but over all many more negatives when discussing this topic. Different opinions go into this discussion from kids under 18 to adults above 21. Although kids may think alcohol is all fun and games but lowering the drinking age to under 21 will cause issues with people not knowing their limits, drunk driving, and abusive behavior. Although some people might see a problem with not lowering and keeping the drinking age to 21, I do not. I understand one can vote, buy lottery and cigarettes, do jail time, and join the army, etc; but those things do not impair you like alcohol does. Some may argue, “I can go to jail but I can’t have a drink when I want?” Everyone should know that committing a crime is wrong and that their will be consequences. At the age of 18 knowing right from wrong should be hammered in one’s mind by then. Although, at the age of 18 not everyone might know about the consequences that alcohol may bring. They also mention that drinking can cause poor behavior including, sexual activity, aggressive or violent behavior and drinking and driving. At the age of 18, I personally don’t think all kids know their limits. Some of these consequences are just too hard to understand and one might lack in having smart decisions in this category. The above information should inform you that a lot of mistakes and accidents can happen and that when one chooses to drink alcohol they better be smart about it. Unfortunately, all most kids are worried about is having fun with their friends at this age, and fun comes with
