The ancient people in North America did not have an organized writing system like China or many other ancient societies. Although there are some forms of symbolic representations existed, people in North America did not have writings as far as our understanding now.
Historians and archaeologists work differently and normally focus on different materials when they do the research. While archaeologists pay more attention to first-hand materials such as bones instead of ancient books or letters, or sometimes even rumors like historians.

There are oceans between America and Africa or Asia, where we human beings evolved. As modern humans evolved from about 400,000 BP in Africa, they are geographically far away from the American continent. They slowly migrated into Europe and Asia as there are connected to Africa. But it was so difficult for ancient human beings to travel across the sea and been to America.
Moreover, human beings spent a long time adapting to live in a cold environment, it was not until a dramatical change in sea level which connects Asia and America and exposed a land bridge called Beringia.
So, I think all of these elements are the reasons why humans migrate into North America only after 15,000 BP.

I think the first reason is that the environment and climate changed dramatically while the large game animals are suffering extinction during these times.
People at that time also found more resources and ways to hunt small animals for plant foods to meet their needs. Another reason is that the upgrade of weapon. People are developing better spears which are easier for them to hunt small animals. Moreover, like the pacific coast cultures, some people may have ample land and ocean to provide them enough food.
