The first written proof for the existing of the Ancient Olympics can be found back in the 776 BC. Starting then the Olympics were held every 4 years, and the winners were listed on inscriptions, discovered in Olympia. The games back then were taking place in Olympia, Greece in the Zeus’ sanctuary. Furthermore, the Olympics were religiously important, featuring sporting events alongside ritual sacrifices honouring both Zeus and Pelops. It is uncertain when exactly the Ancient Games came to an end.
