Throughout the greater part of recorded modern history, people have always looked for new ways to entertain themselves. The Olympics are a prominent example of people's attempts to entertain themselves. The Olympics have been held to honor a god or a nation. They provide the entire world with a reason to compete and bring honor to their nation, but it wasn't always this way. In ancient Greece the Olympics were created to honor the mighty god Zeus. Now things have changed. The Olympics are now a worldwide event where qualifying countries gather at a selected venue and complete for the gold to bring sport glory to their country. Though they share the same name, the modern and ancient Olympics are quite different.
The first recorded Olympics were held long ago in the year 776 B.C. In these Olympics a cook by the name of Coroebus won the only event, the 200 hundred meter footrace. The Olympics popularity quickly caught fire and soon became Greeces most popular sporting event. After awhile the Olympics gained events such as; the diaulos, the dolichos, and boxing. While today the venues for each Olympiad changes based off of the choosing of the Olympic committee. Throughout the history of the modern games there have been a few cancellations but when they were, they were cancelled because of war. In 1940 the winter Olympics were cancelled due to the outbreak of World War II. In the olden days the athletes had no shame and wore no clothing at all. Today on the other hand times have changed and we now dress our athletes in performance enhạncing
