In India and China, “…caste background continues to define opportunities available to individuals” (Desai & Dubey, 2012). Social castes and classes were a very important part of an ordered society in India and China because they allowed there to be different levels of power, and there could be discipline. A well-organized government and different social castes and classes allowed work to be completed within a shorter amount of time because peasants could do the work, people in higher castes could tell the peasants what work they should do, and a well-organized government could organize projects. A well-organized government could organize large building projects with efficiency. Social castes and classes could also allow there to be opportunities to build new things and to progress. There could be many opportunities to acquire more land, to farm, or to do other things. In China, "Confucius said, ‘Harmony is something to be cherished,’ President Hu Jintao noted in February 2005. A few months later, he instructed China's party cadres to build a “harmonious society.” Echoing Confucian themes, Hu said China should promote such values as honesty and unity, as well as forge a closer relationship between the people and the government" (Bell, 2006).This shows that to have a society that cooperates with each other and gets along, there needs to be peace and harmony. This is true for all societies. If different parts of society are feuding, there will not be peace and harmony, and society will be torn apart and the country could possibly fall apart. Harmony is important to have a prosperous society because when there is peace and harmony in society, things, like farming and building projects, are completed. When society is unified in having peace and harmony, it is organized and ordered because different aspects of society will work together to get jobs
