The Greeks made an enormous impact on America. In which literature as well as mathematics are used today and America's democratic government is run. Contributions Greeks made to society impacted and led to the development of the current form of democracy, the influence of Ancient Greek literature, and the influence of mathematics.
The democratic government used today was influenced by Greek culture. The ancient Greek statesmen, Pericles had many views on democracy, he believed, “It is called a government of the people because we live in consideration of not the few, but of the majority”(Craig 1). Pericles’ view of democracy is seen similarly in America’s government. With a stable government, the majority, of people are treated fairly instead of …show more content…
Many Greek mathematicians influenced math,“Perhaps the most important single contribution of the Greeks, though - and Pythagoras, Plato and Aristotle were all influential in this respect - was the idea of proof, and the deductive method of using logical steps to prove or disprove theorems from initial assumed axioms.”(Matsin 1). This shows that they paved the way for new theorems to be proved today because current math uses the same theorems are used. Mathematicians still use the same logical steps to prove and disprove theorems. “Try as they might, the Pythagoreans could not solve the puzzle, and they finally faced up to the reality that no ratio of two whole numbers could express the value of the square root of 2.”(Violatti 1). This shows that with modern math there, and with further research mathematicians were able to prove what was not previously known, because without Ancient Greek math people today would not know there is no even square root of two. If ancient Greek math had not been as advanced as it was the idea of the explanation of further mathematics used today would not be
