Hydra for one has a freshwater animal and a Island near greece named in dedication to the beast. The hydra of Lerna is the greatest known hydra because of the extravagant battle between the hydra and Hercules. Originally the Hydra was created and raised by Hera to fight Hercules during his second labor. Hercules was up for a demanding fight. He knew that the Hydra had a immortal center head. She also head a breath that could kill you with a wiff and that once he cut off a head two or three would grow back. Heading to learna, Hercules came up with a plan; he was going to cover his mouth with a cloth and burn the severed necks after he cut each one off so a new head could not grow back in its place. The encounter occurred and Hercules moving swiftly completed the plan he had planned. Different stories tell it differently but, the Hydra has been said to have five to ten thousand heads when Hercules was battling it out. When everything seemed to be working for the hero he remembered the immortal center head. Therefor when he was down to only the immortal head he chopped it off and shoved it under a large boulder. Hercules taking victory dipped his arrows in the Hydra’s blood because it is poisonous and even a cut would kill a man. Eventually Hercules died because of a Hydra blood soaked shirt he put on. To lead off Hercules had to travel to the underworld during his twelfth labor. Hercules in the twelfth labor had to capture Cerberus and bring him to the world of the living. Ensuing the permission of Hades to capture Cerberus, Hercules accomplished the task after a strenuous fight and returned the beast back to it’s home in the underworld. Cerberus second encounter was with Orpheus who was proficient at the lyre. Orpheus wanted his wife returned from the land of the dead who passed away and was taken from him. To get past Cerberus, Orpheus played his lyre so beautifully it put the beast to sleep. Once getting to Hades, Orpheus was allowed to take his wife but was told to not look at her until they get to the land of the living or else he will lose her forever. He was not able to resist the urge to look and lost her
