A lot of Greek foods that were around in ancient times are still around today. Greek farmers ate what they grew. The Greek diet was vegetables such as fennel, chickpeas lentils and celery. They did not have much meat but they were surrounded by the sea so they had a lot of fish. They grew lots fruits such as apples, pears and cherries. They also had a lot of olives. The greeks believed that the Greek goddess Athena gave them their first olive. The ancient Greeks did not have any sugar but they had honey, so honey was used as a sweetener. Many Greeks had bees for their own honey.
