Ancient Greece: The Oracle Of Delphi

The oracle of Delphi was one of the most important shrines in all of Greece and Delphi is best-known for the oracle at the sanctuary that became dedicated to Apollo during the classical period.

The oracle was built around a sacred spring, which dates back to 1400 B.C. Many people came from many locations in Greece to have their questions about the future answered by the Pythia, the priestess of Apollo.

The oracle answered people's questions and inquires. Delphi gained subsequent wealth and fame as the word spread of an oracle with far-reaching prophetic powers.
