Ancient Greece as one of the most well-known ancient civilizations in history has a lot of unique aspects that attracts historians. And the main reason that Ancient Greece amazes historians is that a lot of inventions or ideas are still being till this day in the 21th century. With the unusual structure of city-states due to geography, each region have developed different types and have formed different government structure. The way that Greek build their buildings is by putting pillars on the side which then adding a triangular roof on the top. The pillars are equally placed underneath the roof which reinforces the stability of the structure and usually underneath the roof there would not be any supporting pillars since the pillars on the sides are strong enough to held the structure stable. Furthermore, the design of not having any pillars in the middle increases the aerodynamic of the structure and it inspires modern engineers to design buildings with different floors and with side pillars supporting it. For example, the Parthenon was built based on the idea of of this and which was an architecture achievement at the time. The unique way of how the Parthenon was built has inspired modern design engineers a better point of view in terms of positioning of different parts and the overall style of the structure. Other than the architecture achievement, Ancient Greeks thought art was all about capturing the ideal side of human beings. Ancient Greeks have started to paint religious and mythological figures on pottery and it is one of the most realistic paintings from ancient times. The city-state of Athens provided children with variety types of education for them to be skillful at more than one subject which is what the many western society is doing now by providing free education. By providing different variety of courses, it will increase the overall literature skills and benefit the city-state. With the increase of literature level in the city-state, it provided many working class people where they can work and profit the city-state. Just like how modern western societies provided students with many courses to choose from and sooner or later, the students will eventually become a member of the working class and benefit the economy. The Ancient Greeks are also the ones that have started the Olympic games and the first Olympic game was hosted in the city of Olympia in Ancient Greece. The Greeks have basically included physical education into their education system and benefited the people’s health. Overall, the Greeks have provided western society the basic structure of an education system. And in modern days, western society’s education is built on what was left behind by the Ancient Greeks with their spirits and the idea of including physical education.
