Ancient Egypt Vs Ancient China

Throughout the ages, every society has set up its government in different ways; some were governed by religion, in others, religion played a very little role in how the government and society was run. Despite their differences, all of these society’s leaders used their culture to project power over their cities, as well as other cities. When examining these different societies, one needs to take into account the differences of their landscapes, time periods, and levels of sophistication. The Ancient Egyptians are from a much earlier time period than the Ancient Indian culture, and they had a drastically different landscape; but their technology and technique for building was very similar. The Great Learning, which was written by Confucius, is a text that teaches about how “to illustrate illustrious virtue; to renovate the people; and to rest in the highest excellence.” This is especially important in regards to how there cities were governed. This text also laid out how the rulers should regard their people and how they needed to live in order to find Knowledge in the world to better themselves and their kingdom. “The ancients who wished to illustrate illustrious virtue throughout the kingdom, first ordered well their own states. Wishing to order well their states, they first regulated their families. Wishing to regulate their families, they first cultivated their persons. Wishing to cultivate their persons, they first rectified their hearts. Wishing to rectify their hearts, they first sought to be sincere in their thoughts. Wishing to be sincere in their thoughts, they first extended to the utmost their knowledge. Such extension of knowledge lay in the investigation of things.” One of the other major parts of Ancient China's culture was that of the women's’ place in society. “HUMILITY, On the third day after the birth of a girl the ancients observed three customs: first to place the baby below the bed; second to give her a potsherd [a piece of broken pottery] with which to play; and third to announce her birth to her ancestors by an offering.” This …show more content…
Their beliefs in the world’s beauty and power was very well displayed.“In spring it is the dawn that is most beautiful.”, “In summer the nights.,” “In autumn the evenings,” “In winter the early mornings.” These four explanations of the seasons’ beauty show how much of a role that nature played in their culture. It was important culturally to understand nature. The samurai were the ones in charge of the government, and everything was based on honor and journey for themselves and their families. They had to live by the code of honour, and if they were to break this code, their family would be disgraced. There is a story that explains how a young warrior named Ko No Moronao, “a man who, failing in his attempt to seduce a married woman, resorted to brute force.” When the story ends, Ko No Moronao has retired from the world of politics and has become a monk.
