Ancient Egypt: The Reign Of Akhenaten

Improved Essays
Ancient Egypt always fascinates me, especially learning about the Pharaohs. Akhenaten is a very famous Pharaoh, and for good reason too. His reign, death, and the discovery of his tomb are especially interesting.

Akhenaten’s reign was very different from other Pharaohs. Some people think that in the fifth year of his reign, Akhenaten had a vision. What he got out of it was that he had to change the religion of Egypt. He started to practice monotheism, the worship of one god, and worshiped Aten. This time was known as the Amarna period. Historians really aren’t sure of the exact dates of his reign. It was either from 1335-1336 B.C. or 1351-1334 B.C. As you can see, the reign of Akhenaten was very interesting.

The death of Akhenaten is a sort of mystery, but only in a few ways. Akhenaten died in 1334 B.C., in Egypt. He was 46 years old when this happened. We’re not completely sure of the cause of his death, it might have just been old age. But, there is a possibility of Akhenaten had an illness. One of those possibilities is Marfan Syndrome. Nowadays, there are medications that would help you live as long as an average person, which Akhenaten probably didn’t have access to. So, Akhenaten’s death is definitely an intriguing topic.

Akhenaten’s tomb was not an exception. His tomb, also known as KV55, was discovered in the Valley of Kings. This tomb was unearthed in 1907 by Edward R. Ayrton. When Ayrton was working there for Theodore M. Davis, Akhenaten’s tomb was found. It might not have been much different from other Pharaohs, but it was definitely, and still is, just as

There were many pharaohs of Egypt including, Tut, Zozer, and Khufu, but there are some that need to be recognized. The first one is a pharaoh named Menes who brang Egypt together, then there was Hatshepsut who expanded borders and sent out explorers to trade with others, and finally there was Akhenaten who changed art and religion in egypt and may have started monotheism. If we didn’t have these pharaohs the world would be a much different place now because Egypt might not have been what it is today. We learn about many pharaohs in history in school, but these pharaohs were the most important. These Kings and Queen were staples of Egypt’s economy then and now.…
