Ancient Egypt Summary
The Egyptian Empire lasted for almost 3000 years. We know most of Egyptian history by their drawings, and their towns that they built. Before the Egyptian empire, they was a tribe. They were a hunter gatherer society that soon settled. The tribe split up into 2 separate tribes, and settled very far apart from one another. One was on the base of the Nile River in the North, and one in the deep desert of the white lands in the South. The first king of Egypt settled in the deep south of Egypt, which will later be known as the city of Memphis. In this time period the Egyptians were farmers, and nothing else. Whenever the Pharaoh would die, they would build a pyramid. The first pyramid, (Built for Giza) was not a perfect triangle and had massive steps leading to the top. Once they found out how to build a perfect triangle out of stone, they were able to make the pyramids that we know about today. This 1st part of Egyptian history is known as the “Old Kingdom.” The next period is known as the “Middle Kingdom.” After the old ruler Mentuhotep was assassinated, the throne was passed down to Amenhemet. In between this period, and the Old Kingdom there was an “Intermediate Period.” During this time there were many lines of failing rulers in Egypt. When Amenhemet became ruler, the capital moved to It-Howy. Amenhemet is the only ruler to have the capital set in that small town. Amenhmet was a great ruler, and Egypt flourished. After years of conquest and glory, Egypt’s last ruler, Sobekneferu, the first female ruler, failed to keep the kingdom together. This led to another “Intermediate Period.” During this time period, Egypt split the kingdom. Since there were too many failing rulers in Egypt, they moved the capital to Xois. Since it was known that the Egyptians were failing, a group called the Hyksos gained most of
