Advanced Cities is about how cities have grew and became more advanced over time. As ancient Egypt grew so did trade, Queen Hatshepsut made Egypt richer through trade by trading with nearby countries. The Egyptians traded a lot to a land called Punt. Ancient Egyptians began to build houses using bricks made out of mud mixed with chopped straws. Usually richer and wealthier Egyptians slept on mats and had bigger houses with courtyards for shade, meanwhile poorer Egyptians often slept and ate on the ground. Upper and lower Egypt united as one country. The Pharaoh was the ruler of Egypt and was also considered as a god. Pharaohs ruled ancient Egypt; the Egyptians believed that the Pharaoh was a living god. The difference between a Pharaoh and a king is that a king was just a ruler however a Pharaoh was both a ruler and was worshipped as a god. Ancient Egypt’s government was a monarchy, it was also theocracy. The symbol of law in Egypt was the goddess Ma’at and the ostrich feather. There were many laws in Egypt for all sorts of crimes. The Egyptians were polytheism, which means that they worshipped and believed in many gods and goddesses. There were many gods for all sort of things like life, death, the environment, etc. Some gods had more than one title, such as the goddess Isis who was the goddess of health, marriages and wisdom and the goddess Hathor who was the goddess of sky, love, beauty, joy, motherhood, foreign lands, mining, music and fertility. There were also important gods like Amun, Shu and Tefnut who took part in creation; the god Hapi was the god of the Nile, he brought the yearly floods; Isis was once queen of Egypt, Hathor, the god Horus was the god of the sky and once king of Egypt and the god Amun-Ra was the most important of all, Amun-Ra who was the god Amun and Ra combined, Amun-Ra was known as the god of Ancient Egypt and the King of Gods. One of the most important inventions that the ancient Egyptians invented was writing, writing allowed the Egyptians to keep control of Egypt. Alongside writing the Egyptians also invented papyrus sheets, which were made from the papyrus plant. The Egyptians had a very good understanding of mathematics, which helped them construct big monuments and buildings such as pyramids and temples. They developed geometry, which helped them with the yearly Nile floods. Wealthy Egyptians such as Pharaohs were mummified after they died; the Egyptians found a way to mummify bodies so it won’t decay. They also invented a lot of medicine that even helped the world’s first surgery, however a lot of the medicines were quite strange. Egyptian priests studied the sky, which later on helped them to develop the world’s first calendar. A lot of Egyptians wore makeup even men; they invented kohl from minerals and soot.
