This was mostly due to the fact that they were able to travel great distances on their junks and transport large quantities of pepper at a time. Europe at the time was not prominent in the Southeast Asia region and they realized how profitable the pepper trade was in the area; so they decided to get in on the trade in Asia. Dutch and English traders came to Southeast Asia and had to face the competition of the dominant Chinese in every port in Southeast Asia which was made possible by the versatile junk ships of the Chinese. It is very evident that that Chinese were major players in the pepper trade because of their ability to reach every corner of Southeast Asia with their ships. They were able to control the economy of the entire region of the world at this point in time and it was due to the fact that they were able to reach great lengths and spread their culture into the different ports that they
