The reason people talk about their background (ancestors, culture, traditions) is because often these things are what make a person. A person surrounded by a distinct culture will be affected and most likely will affect their view on the world. An example of this is how Native Americans have high value for the natural world and all creatures of this earth. People who grow in this culture and practice their traditions will be affected and will give this world a different point of view from that of someone living elsewhere.
