The film Anatomy of Murder depicts the criminal trial process. It gives an almost accurate account of how a trial process is. In the film there are a few exceptions to the depiction of the trial but it did a great job with how it showed the trial process. This paper will analyze the pretrial and trial proceedings depicted in the film.
Pre trial
First, are the pretrial proceedings that went on in the movie? In the film it had shown the accused already taken into custody. There was not a booking shown of the accused in the movie. The arrest that was alluded to in the film did have probable cause because the accused had shot a man. Their expert witness was a psychiatrist. According to Champion, Hartley& Rabe that both sides can have an expert witnesses that will give a clear interpretation of evidence in the case or evaluation of the actions done because they are extremely experienced in their filed and can give expert testimony to either rebut or counter the arguments in the case which can either help or hurt the case (169). There was case in chief from both the prosecution and defense. The prosecution had the photos of the deceased and corners report as evidence and eye witness testimony. Also Champion, Hartley & Rabe discuss eye witness testimony as being of significant value to both attorneys because they can provide how the situation had happened and went on that day (169). The defense had the evidence of the wife’s torn underwear as evidence and her testimony and the defendant’s eye witness testimony. The counsel had both rest there cases but there was not a motion of acquittal from the defense, but rather just a continuance of direct and cross examination of
